As I said, I am so old to have known and appreciated the authentic Hornby Dublo models.
I also have appreciated their couplers so much, that I devised a way 30 years ago for CLOSE COUPLING: I installed them on a rake of stainless steel TEE coaches by Jouef, more recessed at one end.
This meant I had to build the rake by numbering the coaches and disallowed removal of any mid one, but greatly satisfied me. I still cherish them.

I think we have come a long way with the detailing , the prices are crippling to those of us with small budget for the hobby we love. I think the americans have the best deal, good running ,highly detailed well priced models.

That's very true melongrabb. The American market is so large that the manufacturers can produce models at a reasonable price and if they don't, the Americans simply won't buy them
