Excellent news. I have been a member of the Campaign for Borders Rail since its creation and what a long haul it has been to get this far! However, after so many false dawns, it does now seem that we will get a railway back between Edinburgh and Galashiels even if the opening date has once again slipped - to 2015. Whether I'll live long enough to ever see an extension south to Hawick or eventually Carlisle is another matter, though.

What was Galashiels station is now an ASDA car park and the new "station" will be a pathetic little platform squeezed into the side of the site. I attach a photo I took in 1971: after closure but still showing the size of this lovely station.
