Hallo Everyone,
Just thought we would introduce ourselves, were a couple of wrinklies enjoying our retirement in beautiful West Sussex. I'm currently passing time researching my wife's family history and find her Great Grandfather was a signalman on The Midland Railway living and working at Moira in Leicestershire. In the 1901 census it says that he had 'Lost left foot by accident' and we wonder if anyone out there caould tell us where to look for further information. Anyway all the best to everyone out there, Kenbarb ![]() |

Hello and welcome to the forum!
In Herefordshire we have record offices (I forget the exact name), which hold all of the censuses recorded over the years and stuff like that. Without knowing Leicestershire I don't know if the council do such places but they would be a good start and the staff there would have a good idea of where to start looking for the information you require. |

Hi Kenbarb!
Moira was on what is now the Leicester - Burton branch. Here's where the line starts (it's the branch going off to the left), just South of Leicester and only a stones throw away from where I live. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&...03455&t=h&z=18 Regarding your wifes great grandfather, this may be some help - http://www.midlandrailwaystudycentre...k/contents.htm ![]() |

Welcome to the Forum KenBarb.
John Hunt suggestion of the Midland Railway Study Centre could well throw up some information. The other possibility is the Public Records Office at Kew. I know that the LMS records are there but am not sure if constituant companies like the Midland are also there. Between the two locations you might well have some success. However it could take a lot of time to sift through many documants! Wishing you every success in your research. Best wishes, John H-T. |
