This is worth reading. Thanks for sharing it. I can't help compare our lack of vision with the ambition of Vietnam described in a thread in the section of the Forum. We are still one of the richer countries in the world but seem to do nothing but go backwards, whereas Asia (in this case Vietnam, one of the poorer countries in the world) just powers onwards and upwards. Is the spirit of the Victorians lost forever? |

The way our engines continue to be sent off overseas, we won't have a railway. The foreign operators of our railways, are the same as the foreign buyers of all our assets . Our country is heomorageing all we have.

Just look what obstacles that are in place in this country, mainly put there by our own government and unions.
Boris Johnson is going to have a fight on his hands with the unions over the non-manning of the new tube stock. What about London transport workers demanding and getting bonus payments because of the Olympics. Look at the taxation when we employ a person you have to add 40% to the wage bill to cover national insurance etc. All the EU rules on maternity/paternity leave etc add a cost to operational costs as well as the difficulty of trying to manage the leave. Now just look at what is going to happen latter this year with compulsory pensions for all. People and companies will contribute to a pension that will in my view will only benefit the insurance companies (charges). I could go on but I am now in the Victor Meldrew mode, I just don’t believe it. |
