UK Historical Query Cl 37 - 97304
I wonder if any of you can advise me?
When Network Rail put the ERTMS signalling system in on the Cambrian Lines, NR converted several Class 37 Diesels to use for ERTMS engineers, charter trains etc, and painted them all bright yellow. See No 97304 is named John Tiley. There are some people in the wider railway community who think that is me and was named because of my previous HMRI connection. Any ideas who John Tiley is/was? Not important particularly, interested to find out – have not found anything about a naming ceremony. If it was named after me, shame they did not spell my name correctly! JHT |

"Who is, or was, John Tiley? A Network Rail Engineering manager, according to other websites: the nameplates were originally carried by a track machine, 73211, which left the Network Rail fleet following an accident in 2007, the year before the 97/3s came into being."
