Do any freight trains still pass through Chester station for the North wales coast??

Chester station is served by a goods loop, but if you take a train to Shotton (about 4 miles into Wales), you should see some freight trains.

Also, if you travel to 'Rotten Shotten' by train, you could carry on to Llandudno Junction. You should see lots of freight diagrams working through there.

But be warned, it ain't like the old days. North Wales & North Wales Coast are the most deprived areas of Britain with record unemployment, all due to industries closing down and moving elseware.

Surely there can't be TWO Llandudno Junctions
The one that I know and love sees only the nuclear flask workings from Valley(DRS) and a very occasional stone working from Penmaenmawr(Freightliner). If you were really, really lucky you might see them both on the same day.
In addition to these, Chester also sees the regular(most weekdays) Carlisle-Chirk logs(Colas Rail) and a very occasional coal working that I think goes to Penyfford Cement Works via Wrexham.

I thought the steel works near Queensferry would necessitate some freight traffic, and some power stations further along???

I was right about Shotton though...it's a horrible place, really depressing. Your head would have to be 'shot' to wanna go there Haha.

Penmaenmawr is good for seeing the stone trains.......every now and again......

The last time I was that way, Llandudno only had two stations. There was the Junction, plus another and which name escapes me right now, but I feel it was just Llandudno, despite my Sister living near Shotton and Chester, plus I lived that way from 1977, through to 1978, visited the area since, but now the old grey matter tends to make me forget things.

Some years ago HM had the Mostyn Dock Traffic.
We used to take some 45 tonner tanks to Mostyn Docks, on a regular basis and steel girders.
The route was from HM/Huddersield/ Stalybridge/Guide Bridge/Stockport/Northwhich/Chester and Mostyn.
At the dock they had thier own little loco for the shunting.
We signed on at 04:03hrs and off at around 1300.
On the way back the sun was in your face all the way back.
The new gas power station was being built at this time.

What year was this HM? and what was the motive power? 47s? 40s?

These jobs to my knowledge were running until quite recently.
As guards were were taken off these jobs in the early 2000's.
The motive power as I remember were class 37's, but knowing HM, any type of spare loco could have been diagrammed for this job.
