Northern needs must.

Things are a bit quiet in this section of the forum.

I had a thought. Northern desperately needs more rolling stock, but can't get it, because the promised stock is now going to the south west, who to be honest do have a bit of a crowding problem, but nothing like up here (I know I was Exeter not too long ago).

There has been stages where I havn't been able to squeeze onto a train, so I've had to take the car, which is increasingly temperamental, or cycle with no rear brake.

Heres the thing though, its not like there aren't any pacers stored, I mean, apart from a few preserved examples and one shipped to Iran, there is nearly an entire class of 141s out there somewhere. I have said before that something has to be done and it doesn't look like it will, so desperate times cause for desperate measures.
They are some of the worst things ever to hit the rails, but its more seats.

Of course, the south west could have the 141s and let Northern hae some more 150s? (yep, not gonna happen is it?)

What other option do they have?

Here's how to solve the problem!

On a serious note there is only overcrowding in this country becuse people are too damlazy to wait 5 mins ofr the next train plu sheath and saftey regading the use of MK1 Rolling Stock.

They should let Heritage Railways operate some peak time trains as if you look at it this way you get an average of upto 9 coaches on a Heritage line this includes 1st class and a Buffet and a Guards Van but yet you only get an average of upto 3/4 coaches on mainline railway.

Then when a part goes wrong the whole train is failled and you get a shortage of units you don't get that with cariages as you either swop the loco or put another on the head of it or if ita problem with a cariage you swop it for another.

You see its the way this country operates trains that is the problem not so much the ammount of cariges we have.

SFE, you really must get a preserved stock book! Those 141's were withdrawn by 2002 and, to put not too fine a point on it, flogged off! Iran railways bought no less than 28 vehicles, 4 went to the Netherlands and of the rest The Weardale Rly. have 4 vehicles and the Colne Valley Rly. & the Midland Railway Butterley 2 each.

Regards, 62440.

Oh.
I used wikipedia for my source, so that explains my wrong info.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_141

That only lists 20 locos in total.

On the point of using mark 1 vehicles, there will be some difficulty in getting good quality stock. Since withdrawal six years back many have been stored in a terrible condition.
Some of the oldest mark 1s are getting on for 60. Only the younger ones would be any good. Mark 2s however are a different story.
i know for a fact that GCR (N) has quite a lot of air conditioned stock hanging around, and the same for many other sites.
