Toton MPD - Advice needed.
I am planning to visit the DBS home of Toton soon,as it is my first visit i would like some general advice on the place.
1) Are Depot permits issued here? 2) Where are the best places for viewing? 3) How many of the class 60 can be seen here? 4) How good do bino's and video camera need to be? 5) How much freight is seen to move here on a weekday? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Pete. |

Hello Pete and welcome to the forum.
To answer your questions in order:- 1. No. 2. Toton bank, on the opposite side of the main line to the depot (east side) gives a good elevated view of the depot. Also the footpath which runs parallel to the river and canal on the west side of the depot is useful for stuff hidden behind buildings, trees, other locos etc. 3. According to wnxx there are 75 class 60's on Toton, how many can be seen depends on how many are in the depot building, and how they're parked in relation to other locos, I understand that some of them are in the west yard nearer the bank. 4. A good pair of 10 X 50's are essential. Video camera, can't say, don't use one. 5. Can't say, usually go at weekends when there's not much. To find Toton bank, assuming you're driving, M1 junction 25, turn east on the A52, go to the first roundabout, turn right on to (B6003) Toton Lane, then right at the firs set of traffic lights. (Banks Road) go to the end where it becomes a turning circle and park. Go up the path towards the kids plyaground and turn left. At the next path turn right up the hill, left at the top and you're there. I don't recommend sunny afternoons, the sun is in your eyes and makes viewing very difficult, Mornings are best. Hope this helps, Regards, 62440. Last edited by 62440; 21st June 2010 at 22:10. |
