Sir William McAlpine
It has been announced that Sir William McAlpine has passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.
Obviously best known as one-time owner (and saviour) of 'Flying Scotsman', he also had many other railway interests during his lifetime including ownership of GWR 'Castle' No.4079 'Pendennis Castle', was Chairman at the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch, and Dart Valley Railways, and was heavily involved in the creation of Steamtown in the former 10A shed at Carnforth. He also created the Fawley Hill Railway in the grounds of his home. |
