1920s London underground signal cabin is finally replaced after 90 years
As part of modernisation plans, London Underground finally replaces a 90-year old signal box, designated an item of national historical interest.

It is a testament to its pioneering design and robustness that it is still in use today.” It is thought the new upgrade will mean a 33% increase in trains on the Circle and Hammersmith and City lines by the early 2020s. http://snappa.static.pressassociatio...fb-600x400.jpg(TfL/Flickr) Managing director of the London Underground Mark Wild told the Evening Standard: “Upgrading the Circle, District, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan lines will enable us to increase capacity for millions of our customers. “At the same time, it’s important to us that we recognise the significance of earlier technological advances made by London Underground.” http://snappa.static.pressassociatio...d1-600x439.jpg(TfL/Flickr)

Interesting.
I have a friend who is heavily involved in the IT for London Underground, but I have not seen him for ages. Must catch up with him. ![]()
