New to DCC
Hi All,
I'm just returning to model railways at the tender asge of 59, after dabling quite a few years ago when DCC was not heard of. The question I have is when running in a new model manufacturers seem to recommend it be done using DC, no problem with DCC ready models, but what about new models with DCC fitted, do I have to take the chip out? ![]() Cheers Robert |

Hi Robert, No you don't have to do anything so drastic. Running in can be done on DCC. On my last model railway I ran in all my locos on DCC. I don't know where this DC running in idea came from but anyone who has tried DCC wouldn't go back to the "old" system.

Manufacturers recommend you run a DCC ready model on a DC track so that you can return the model if there is a fault. once you fit a chip to a DCC ready model the guarantee in invalid. If the model is DCC fitted then there is no problem unless you remove the chip within the guarantee year.

No it will run in DCC just as easily as in DC.
The reason they reccomend that you run in DC at first is; any electrical faults or problems will be easy to identify. But you don't really need to run them in anymore. |

DCC on small locos
Kernow's Beattie Well Tank has a DCC plug for a 6 pin chip fitted in the smoke box. The smoke Box door is held on with 2 magnets and a small grove. I think its about time Hornby and Bachmann did the same for there locos. It would be good for larger steam loco as well. It would save having to remove the wheels and damaging our expensive models.

I wouldn't agree. I find that all models need gentle running in and all manufaturers recommend it.
Best wishes, John H-T.
