Anything above the rate of inflation is completely unacceptable and the Department of Transport, which we are always being told likes to micro-manage the railways, should prevent it. If they don't have the power, it should be made very clear to the TOC's that any that do screw passengers in this way won't have their franchise renewed and/or will have any subsidy reduced by a similar percentage.
