More carriages for airport trains (BBC News)

Train routes to Stansted Airport and Midland Mainline benefit from the introduction of almost 200 carriages.

More from BBC News...

Thank god for that. I was on a Stansted express at the weekend coming back from the England game at Wembley and it was a right snotter. Torn and frayed seats, worn gum covered carpets, scratched Graffiti all over the glass and penned over the walls.....................you know the score

Trains like this are the first sight of our transport infrastructure that many visitors to the UK get and it doesn't leave a favourable impression.

It will be interesting to see how they will make Harlow Car park bigger coz I don't think there is any spare space around it. Still I suppose they can build upwards ............

Despite the headline, the actual report doesn't say anything about Midland Mainline ?!

is it the class 321s or 323s that are to be lent from London Midland ?

It does read like that. I well remember the original Stansted Express class 322's which were excellent trains from a passengers point of view. I was amazed when they got rid of them and replaced them with refurbished 317's which are nowhere near as nice.

If it is the 321's they will be sending to Stansted then we will have gone full circle back to a design that is closely related to the original 322 sets.

An interesting update to this, Railway Herald is reporting that these Stansted trains are to be New Bombardier Electrostar units. They also mention the 321's in passing but it isn't clear how they fit in the picture

why dont airports just invest in a docklands light railway theme, not just a stupid 2-car pointless tram thing that smells of burgerking urine and sweat,
