Infrastructure enhancements around Ely
This is (I believe) part of BWs stamping ground.
An article from Railfreight.com about Infrastructure enhancements around the East of England town of Ely . https://www.railfreight.com/railfrei...n-ely-project/

Thanks for that Philip. Yes, you're right. Until very recently I drove through Ely on the GN service from Kings Lynn to Kings Cross.
That's an interesting article you've flagged up. It's funny that the authors think the locals would be upset that the railway wants a bridge, when they're happy to have had a road bridge for the bypass over the railway already. Typical subjective NIMBYism Even though the Up and Down lines are both bi-directional to the north of Ely, there's so many conflicting moves between passenger and freight traffic that it's inevitable for everyone to be delayed. There's an enormous amount of Intermodal (metal box) freight funning between the Midlands and the port of Felixstowe. And northbound passenger services split for Peterborough, Kings Lynn and Norwich. I find it amusing that they think 500 million is a lot of money, when our government has wasted many bilions of pounds on duff software and other sidelines. Anyhow, mustn't get political. Keep safe, everybody. BW. |
