Anyway, have you tried the national archives?
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk will get you started. Also a book "Was your grandfather a railwayman?" is available,Try the
www.familyhistorybookshop.co.uk for that. Then there's the Railway Family History Society at
www.railwayancestors.org.uk . Also, possibly the National Railway Museum, Leeman Road, York., may have some idea about what records exist and where.
