Well now, some disturbing information that I have had in the past week, concerning Nuneaton Abbey Street and its surroundings. Well in short,it "aint" there no more !!
The whole railway operation, station , signalbox, yard, branch lines have all gone apparently !
This is awful, that area which is above the main West Coast Main Line, was a hive of activity and like I said previously in the steam days Nuneaton shed always had a banker at Abbey street to bank trains up Arley bank and through the tunnel. Also up until the late eighties in BR days, Abbey street was a busy place with class 25s and 47s working around there, mainly on ballast trains.
A relation of mine who lives close by that area told me about it and I am absolutely dumbfounded at the news.
Nobody would have thought that such a busy railway location could be simply "wiped away" just like that.
Depressing, definately depressing.
I can think back at the firing I done in my younger days mainly on "Super Ds" on the banker.
Time for me to go now, sorry to moan.
