If yes is there a design fault in the 66 braking system?
An eye witness to the derailment at Carrbridge (between Aviemore and Inverness) where "James" came off has publicly stated that one of the crew told him that they had experienced some sort of brake failure on the descent from Slochd summit. Obviously if this is true then the fault could be either with the loco or the container flats. The train involved in the near-miss at Carstairs was being hauled by 2 x 86/6's so Class 66 is not a common factor between the two incidents.
