Display Flags
Can anyone explain to me the 'Display Flag' on early American locos? They seem to be carried on the front of a loco, one on each side.
Did they have different colours? Did they have different flags for the type of train that was running? When did they stop. There were even very ornate flag staffs on the front of some loco's. WHY?
