the pictures show three different types of rail the first is similar to that that is set in grass in places such as Bordeaux but note in the city centre the trams are not overhead fed but as far as I know powered by surface current collection and Alimentation par Sol (APS) from the centre concreted area (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground-level_power_supply )

I've attached a picture of some of their track set in tarmac (the channel type @ Oran) set in Grass (Alger ) The last one looks like it is normal ballasted rail away from areas where people could walk
