I'm not disagreeing with you there. There only used to be one all day Sprinter diagram which started the day on a 06:0x Blackpool to Manchester to Chester service and remained on Chester to Manchester services for the rest of the day, staying at Longsight overnight and then doing an early morning Stockport-Blackpool service the next day.

Pacers are never used on Hazel Grove-Buxton as they aren't powerful enough to deal with the sharp gradient. Sprinters do switch between Buxton and Chester at peak times.
