best NG loco design
Maybe I am biased, but for me it has to be the Double Fairlie! (despite the problems keeping the feeds to the bogies steam tight!) I also have a soft spot for K1. (if it had been cut down to fit the FfR it would have needed 3ft high footplate crew!)
I am also very fond of the Rivers Irt, Mite and Esk (in no particular order)
Quite a few years ago Evan Davies and Mountaineer (the Alco) paid a working visit to the VoR - going up the last bit into Devil's Bridge was noisy! I asked about an exchange and was told that the VoR locos were out of gauge for the FfR.
