The tendency of the Italians to sing was outlawed by the Italian State Railways. Under a law introduced on 1st December, 1980, soloists, either singing or playing musical instruments are liable to a fine of 30,000 to 90,000 lire, choral singers 500,000 lire. Orchestras or pop groups however, are liable to receive a prison sentence of two months.
