Frank, when I read 'my Paternal Grandfather and four of his Sons all served on the GWR in South Wales' and 'Merchand Navy' I KNOW there is a potential lost opportunity for a work of biographic literature for posterity. I hope the opportunity doesn't slip away. Not everybody is up for it I know and it does take a lot of effort and research. If the result remains no more than a cared-for manuscript, that is better than nothing.
I have a copy of Derek Brock's 'Small Coal and Smoke Rings' (pub 1983) being the experiences of a cleaner/fireman in South Wales and most of that stuff in there you could never make up. It is precious memory with tears, humanity and laughter, lots of laughter, but Brock went to work setting it all down for us to enjoy and wonder at, and now it represents part of a disappeared lifestyle. Sorry for rambling on.
Anyway, welcome to the forum from me too Frank.
