Hello and welcome to the Forum. You've come to the right place as it's a very friendly Forum and there is a huge amount of knowledge available here. In terms of what class a locomotive is, it's usually quite easy because the locomotive number tells you: 56 XXX is a class 56, 66 XXX is a class 66 etc. but as I say you'll get loads more information from the very knowledgeable members on this Forum. I know there are several who are freight fans and take photos of freight trains. Look forward to reading your posts.
