Simon, welcome to the Forum and I really wish you success with this reopening campaign. I joined the Campaign for Borders Rail back in 1999 when it was first launched to reopen at least part of the Waverley line. Through dogged determination we have succeeded and the Scottish government finally agreed to the reopening from Edinburgh to Galashiels. It was unbelievably difficult at times but construction is actually starting and we should have the railway back by 2015. It can be done! In England it seems even more difficult to reopen any railway (I've spent half my life wondering just why it should be so difficult?) but I think the mad closure mentality of the 1960s has at last been discredited.
