It is possible to obtain old photos (as modern reprints i.e. developed from the original negative). Pretty much every station that ever was is covered.
There are numerous railwayana enthusiasts who provide this wonderful service. The Transport Treasury have the biggest range. They sell by photographer.
(If you like a particular photo in a book, check the acknowldgement at the side of the photo or in the rear of the book and you'll see who took the photo and it's a reasonable bet that you'll be able to get a reprint.)
They only cost about 80p - £1 so it's an affordable hobby.
