Managers today think they know it all from books and college when they wouldn't know their knob from a steam pump. In my opinion the only and best teacher of ANY craft is experience on t'job.
Same goes for some of these lineside lawyers who seem to assume that all things railway are best learned from Ian Allen and railway press. It's alright sitting there taking train numbers and spotting this that and the other but that is not true knowledge. Oh these folk are dedicated alright but a hobby is not a vocation.
