The class 37s were doing roughly half the mileage per year of the Deltic Locomotives, this
puts them at about 100,000 per Locomotive per year. The class 47s were sub divided into
Freight only Locomotives and the Passenger orientated class 47/4s which were hammered up and down the ECML and the Western Region for many years. Therefore seen
as all the 55s were gone by early 82.The class 47s would have passed their mileage totals
quite easily. The class 37s would have taken quite a while longer. However when taking the 55s as subject these Locomotives gained some really spectacular mileage figures. The
Locomotive 55 010 took only ten years to reach 2 million miles.Although it must also be
added that the HSTs were doing considerably more per year about a third more miles I think. Therefore as good as the Deltic figures were they were made to look quite ordinary
when compared to the 125s.
