Hello and Questions..

Hello, my name is Tom I am a university student at UCL.
I recently went on an expedition partly funded through university, we travelled from London to Singapore entirely (as possible) by train. Few probs in SE asia....
As I have always enjoyed trains, and spent many hours building great networks in the attic as a child, I am trying to do a few calculations based upon the info I recorded on the trip. I am trying to prove that long distance travel by train is far better for the environment than air travel (in terms of total CO2 emitted).
However for these calculations I require some extra info than I took down, any help would be much appreciated.
What would your estimates be for the average values of the following globally: (bearing in mind the age of some trains, especially in Russia Kazakhstan etc)

Plant efficiency of the loco..
Weight of loco
Weight of carriage

Hope you can help, thanks very much.
Tom
