Forgotten Structures

Was anyone aware that Network Rail are still responsible for all Railway structures still standing even if there is now no railway associated with it? As an example there is a hump back bridge in the small villiage of North Grimston in N Yorks that the Malton to Driffield line once passed under. This line closed in the mid 1950's yet Network Rail still have to maintain it! Is this a major and unnecessary drain on railway resources? What do you chaps think?
