I recently travelled on one of these 'Pacer' bouncing buses from Manchester Victoria; talking to the conductor, he said that when there are busy periods (late KO football matches etc), a single 142 is nowhere near adequate, so they will add another unit. Unfortunately, owing to H & S regulations, and since there's no inter-connection between these units, the additional unit has to be kept locked, as a single conductor can't be in both units at all times. Since there's never quite enough staff to go round at the best of times, the chances of there being someone actually rostered to do the job is pretty unlikely. Complete waste of time, obviously, and naturally, all those crowded into one unit demand to know why they can't use the other one. I'm glad I don't have to deal with THAT one!
