John HT will fill you in fully as he volunteers on the line, but I was there last week and can confirm it is a nice railway.
It is to be extended to Duffield, I think most of the infrastructure is there now but the opening is in 2010. We rode from Wirksworth to Idringehay, about 40 minutes round trip in a DMU 2 car set.
The opposite direction is to a halt which you can walk to through the Stone Centre near Wirksworth, not sure on the exact area names.
The staff seemed lovely and everywhere was clean & tidy.
