The 456,s are having their traction packages replaced with Hitachi ones now.
Should be interesting as these apparently, er, work.
Seriously though the Networkers do look good, accelerate very quickly, and they ride brilliantly,( if you feel a bump it is a big ,un as the suspension damps out all but the worst) they just have too much unecessary kit hung on them which made them far too heavy.
Their reliability suffered because of that fact, and the plug doors as well.
Sliding doors are not as pretty but much more reliable and simpler.
I will admit to having never been much of an admirer of them ( EPB and CEP/VEP really took some beating) until we got the Class 376 (yuk, yuk, and thrice yuk though there are those that do like them) and the Thameslink work which brought us into contact with the (admittedly well hammered) Class 319.
I started to view them in a different light then.
