As skew-wound motors are generally much better than straight-wound motors the manufacturers usually make a point of mentioning the fact that one is fitted in their advertising blurb for each model.
If a skew-wound motor is not mentioned then I would say there was a pretty good chance that the model didn't have one.
Coreless motors are also pretty good but I don't think that many British models use them.
