Simple rule of thumb on signalling is,

ONLY ONE TRAIN IN ANY SECTION AT ANY TIME UNDER NORMAL WORKING CIRCUMSTANCES.

Obviously in the event of a failure,mishap etc then things get a wee bit more complicated
