but in England there are some much bigger places without a railway station. Even if we don't count dudley (since Dudley Port is only a mile away). Just off the top of my head I can think of Leigh, Ripon, Washington, Peterlee, Ilkeston, Swadlincote, Abingdon and Newport (IOW).

Midland Compound I think Coalville is larger than Swadlincote & it still has a line but no station
