Just to clarify, the Colwich Junction accident was on 19th September 1986 when a Euston - Manchester train hauled by 86429 ran through a red light taking it towards the Stoke line and into the path of a Liverpool - Euston train coming from Stafford and hauled by 86211.
Although there were almost 900 passengers on the two trains and the scene was one of devastation, there was only one fatality - sadly the completely innocent driver of the Liverpool train. Interestingly, despite the havoc, the line was reopened on 23rd September although it was 6th October before a new diamond crossing could be constructed to enable the link to the Stoke line to be used.
