Hello and welcome to the forum Olly. I'm not an expert on such things, so I'm afraid that I can't really be much help to you, but I'm sure one of our members will be able to sort you out. The one thing I can help you with is the diagonal bar alongside the firebox. It's part of the reversing gear, and not the brakes. Hope that helps.
