POLICE APPEAL AFTER TRAIN DAMAGED IN HINCKLEY AREA British Transport Police (BTP) officers have stepped up patrols and are appealing for information after a train windscreen was smashed in the Hinckley area.

Around 10pm on Friday 7 November, a piece of concrete was thrown at the 19:18 Stansted Airport to Birmingham service from a railway bridge in the Burbage area, approximately two miles outside Hinckley railway station.


No-one was injured in the incident although the train was damaged.


Officers also recovered a 5’ long fence post from the tracks.


“We have made extensive local enquiries and spoken with witnesses,” said Inspector Alan Radford, the investigating officer, “and we are also asking for help from any members of the public who may have any information that can assist our investigation to come forward.


"We are treating it as a case of endangering safety on the railway line.


“This sort of behaviour is extremely dangerous and these offences could have easily resulted in injuries to passengers and staff on board the trains.

“We have increased high visibility patrols in the area to combat this dangerous activity and we encourage those who think it is fun to think about the consequences.

“We are working to trace any other witnesses and I ask anyone with any information about these incidents to contact police.”
