Hi John of SWISSTRAINS

Thank you for the information
All of my loco's that are chipped for DCC are fitted with the Hornby decoder. and I purchased 15 of these so may stick with them.

Applying your explanation, I think that it may be possible to use a different decoder provided one continues to protect the motor with the fuse and diodes, The diodes could be wired between the output of the chip and the motor, Luckily the Wrenn Loco's to which I have used the Escap motors have plenty of room in the loco as the weight for the loco does not rely on the chassis alone.

I think I will try converting if I am successful in converting all of my Bachmann loco's as these are a lot trickier due to the chassis electrical connection for the motor.

I am not sure I want to spend the time to do this as we are probably looking at 3 hours for chipping each loco and I have about 15 of them.

I am not yet retired so may save this project for when I am.

Sam
