I think I read somewhere recently that they have done a 5-years after ecological survey and they found that the carefully protected Desmoulin Snails had turned up their noses (feelers??) at their £1m recreated spcial habitat and happily slithered off to a bit of natural river nearby, where they werent supposed to be able to live, and were doing very nicely thank you.
