Intresting bit of Kenya's railway history. Have a look at the photos by clicking on the photo of loco 301. At least 2,000 workers lost their lives building this line, 4 for each of its 580 miles

A facinating line with a long history. It featured in one series of Great Railway Journeys on BBCTV many years ago. I think I still have the tape somewhere.

There is also a book"The Lunatic Express - The building of an impossible 600 mile railway across East Africa." by Charles Miller. pub Macmillan 1971. It covers the history of the area before the line was built and its constuction.
