VEP at Ashford

While passing by Chart Leacon depot yesterday I noticed a tatty grey VEP unit (it might have been a CIG). I thought all these had gone to the scrapman some years ago. Can anyone tell me what it was I saw?

Two 4-CIGs used as depot shunters

Oh right... but CIG couplings are quite different to those on any other stock used these days, so how can a CIG be used for shunting?

Never got to see the depot end of the units, but it wouldn't take much to
change the buckeyes, or use adaptor couplings.

need to get a group together to buy it when it is no longer needed
I do not think there enough in preservation when you think of the hundreds of units there were in service
I can only think of about 4 preserved
