Rail Carriages

This may seem like a random question but how much would a carriage cost for a modern DMU? Non motorised that is.

Thanks

It may be random but is a good one
first place to look would be LMSCA

At present all I can find is three coaches free to a good home no DMU cars

As far as I am aware the LMSCA do not have any coaches for sale at present. They have four coachs at Wirksworth at present:

BR Mk 1 SK in traffic.

LMS Stanier Open Third, newly restored, public launch 8th April, see photo taken at Duffield during test run today. Needs lining and varnishing over the next week.

BR Mk 1 BSK due in service after restoration at the end of this year.

LMS Stanier Porthole Brake Third. Next in rerstoration queue, need to raise £30,000 to complete.

LMSCA also has coaches at Rowseley. Peak Rail, under or awaiting restoration.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

I got the impression the original query was asking about the cost of a new build trailer car for a current build of DMU such as a class 185 or similar.
Is That Correct Mendipman?

now I've re read the queston you are probably right Bryan
the cost of a 185 centre coach ???

25 full trains of Diesel Desiro's cost €67M in 2006 which works out at roughly £25000 per unpowered coach and around £670000 per power/drive car now that's obviously approximate as I have only searched and found basic info so the costs may be different

swisstrains 27th March 2011 23:15

Do you mean "unpowered" or "non-driving" as most modern DMU's(including 185's) have all their cars powered?
Unpowered trailer cars are common on EMU's.

I have often thought it would be fun to have an old carrage in the back garden for the train set..the loft is not big enough I have problems with sharp curves on modern locos

must have a look on e bay but then there is the transport costs .never mind it is something for me to think about

A very good point John, and one I was just about to raise.

As a digression (because that's the fun of forums), the unpowered cars on modern EMUs usually carry all sorts of other gear (transformers, convertors, compressors, pantograph, etc) and so wouldn't be that much cheaper to buy than a driving motor.

Thanks wyvern what an interesting web site,David Shepherd said he paid £3000 for
Black Prince ex BR servicable condition
that is what inflation does
