Hello to everyone
Hi. I was only on the railway for 8 years as a secondman at Tinsley. Loved almost every minute. I was there during the 1970's and watched it descend from a massive bustling hectic freight hub to a place under a black cloud of despair. The coal strikes and steel strikes, along with the 3 day week transformed south yorkshire from a hive of industry to a wasteland in 10 years. I got out in 1981 and joined the computer age. Many times I have wished myself back there.....
I have always had an interest in railways - stopped train spotting when I was about 15, but I still enjoy watching trains. I've recently started photographing semaphore signalling equipment whilst it still exists on 'main line' networks, and signal boxes and old station buildings. The railway I remember of loose coupled trains and staggering to the box to carry out 'rule 55' in a howling gale at 2 a.m. with the hailstones stinging your ears has long gone - never to return, so I'm grabbing a few photographic memories whilst I can. |
Hello Bob and welcome to the forum, enjoy and all the best.

Hi Bob, as an ex Rotherham lad I spent many a day spotting the locos at Tinsley. My brother worked there for a few years as an electrician (Ian Maxfield).
Welcome aboard, and I look forward to you posting photos for us to see. Good snapping |
