Weekend freight
Is there likely to be more or less freight traffic on a weekend, in general, does anyone know?
|
A lot less I should think. Container trains usually operate in the mornings only as most of the ports close at midday to concentrate on weekend arrivals at quayside. Just engineering trains out of places like Whitemoor would be increasing in numbers.

Yeah, you'd expect there to be more ballast (infrastructure) trains about at the weekend (except that once they've worked into a possession they tend to not move very far  ).

I travelled to Liverpool again today and there are certainly a lot of early morning freightliners hauling contrs. through Chelmsford first thing in the morning, but generally apart from contr trains all I saw was ballast/stone trains the whole day.

Agreed.Around the Crewe area on weekdays there is a steady procession in and out of Basford Hall yard but weekends is dead.On Crewe station on a Saturday you would mostly get light engine movements between Crewe EMD,Crewe Carriage Shed,Basford Hall yard and the DRS depot at Gresty Bridge plus one or 2 railtours.Sunday is usually 4 or 5 ballast /engineers train and maybe a few ECS workings if there have been tours the previous day
Hope that helps. |
Last couple of saturdays up at Crewe station, around 9am til about 12.30pm theres been ballast /engineers train up and down.......
