Hello
My first encounter with a steam engine was at Snow Hill Station Birmingham in 1957 and I was nine years old, My dads brother was doing his national service and was returning to Shrewsbury. My mother took me to look at the engine and while looking we was invited onto the footplate by the driver, she wrote down the name of the engine and this was Hindlip Hall cant remember the number. This lit my fire for the love of steam and I became a Fireman in 1963. On March 4th 1967 I passed through Snow Hill this time I was firing my last ever steam engine 7029 Clun Castle on a special train to commemorate the end of steam hauled trains on the Paddington Birkenhead line.

Hello Firemanford and welcome to the Railway Forum. I think Hindlip Hall was 4934 named after Hindlip Hall in Worcestershireter. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Locojoe thanks for the welcome, its a long time since I had anyting to do with Railway stuff I sort of lost interest when my job came to an end so did my hobby. I have got a few old photos but not good quality. I turned my camera to aircraft in 1969 and have done this ever since. I am not great with computers so it might take me a while to get used to the site. I think I posted a message last night but I cant find it now so I had better grab another working class Glass.
Cheers Carl. |

Welcome to the Forum firemanford. Syd is right Hindlip Hall was 4934. Spent a lot of time in the mid-late 50's at Snow Hill although not as much as at New Street, spotting.
