Very, but I would have thought that it might have been a better idea to stay on the same side of the track as the van, and not run back across the line inches in front of the train!

I bet the Torino driver never even said "Grazia"!

Shoulda got out of the van and sacraficed it, it's not worth the risk. The train was slowing down enough to not do any major damage to the train itself, the van is replaceable.

= /

I think he ran back because it'd have taken longer to get round the van, thus the train might have caught him and killed him to death. :p

The whole thing was shown on one of the news channels (I don't remember which) but the driver was still in the van tyring to start it. The guy that pushed the van was a pillion passenger on a motorbike that was stopped behind the van. He jumped off the motorbike and ran up to and pushed the van clear. I agree he should of moved around the side of the van, but if he stayed where he was behind the van, then he would have been hit by the train. The train driver and guard both went over to the guy that pushed the van and looked as if they were talking to him They shook his hand then went back to the train. The van driver also came around the train and spoke to the guy that had just saved his van.

This site will show you a bit more.
