Hello everyone.
I have been interested in steam railways since 1948 when I was given one of the first Ian Allan Locospotters books for the Southern Region. I believe they cost 1/-(old money)then or 5p today.
My interest was sparked by my uncle; who was a main line driver out of Exmouth Junction (72A), Exeter, on the Southern Region of the newly formed British Railways. He regularly drove main line from Exeter to Salisbury but occasionally worked the Withered Arm from Exeter to Ilfracombe. During the Ilfracombe runs I regularly rode the footplate with him on board Bulleid West Country and Battle of Britain Locos. I enjoyed the heyday of British Railways Steam between 1948 and 1964 but lost interest after the Demise of Steam on BR in 1967. However my interest was rekindled after a number of visits to the SVR, the North York Moors Railway and the WSR. Mo@34005 |
