Someone on BBC radio just spent some time obtaining the equivalent maximum fare in France for their longest possible journey. The journey was slightly shorter though; the cost.........308 Euros :mad:

I'm glad this has come out because it does highlight the nonsenses and excesses of the rail fare system. We do at long, long last now have a Secretary of State who seems to both believe in and understand the railways. Unfortunately, it doesn't look as though he is likely to be in office long enough to do a great deal but let's hope he has time to do something about this ludicrous situation.
